Hi Audrey,

Can you get in touch with your rheumy nurse at all!
Either the nurse or your GP may be able to give you a depo steroid injection to get yo over Christmas.
Or you could ask your GP for stronger pain killers.
Hope you can get something to help.

yes definetely ask if you can have a depot steroid. up to 6 weeks of great relief when I've had mine. best used in times like this, between the DMARDs. my rheumatologist usually prescribes them, i would have to go to GP and ask for urgent referral for one before Xmas, if did not have a rheum clinic nurse to sort it out for me.

Hi Audrey

Pretty bad of your rheumy to take you off medication and not giving you any substitute. Certainly my gp has, on occasions, prescribed steroids when the pain's been really bad, so I'm sure that if you contact your gp he/she will be able to do something. Good luck,

Anthea

I came off methotrexate the other week too, and i had a flare up because the etanercept didnt work by itself. it's a shame you had to come off and are now in so much pain. i also find that normal pankillers dont really help much, and apparently its because of the strength of drugs that were on like methotrexate. the only thing i can suggest really is lots of hot baths, or ice packs on swollen joints.
hope your feeling better soon

Hi Audrey,

You never have to apologise for moaning about pain on this site and sorry to hear that your rheumy has left you without any treatment; I agree with others, it's not on. I had similar problems with my liver and MTX and have been without meds since August. To cope with the pain I have had steroid tablets and jabs, and now survive on pain killers because the steroids have played havoc with my mood. In the meantime, I'm now playing the Anti-TNF waiting game.

Do you have to come off MTX completely and has your rheumy advised you on a new treatment plan?

Love,

Barbara

Hi Audrey

Sorry your rheummy has taken you off mtx without a replacement to tide you over. I agree with everyone that you should have a word with your GP and the rheummy nurse. I have tramadol and oromorph to get me through times like this - as well as steroid jabs.

Take care

Hi Audrey, I definitely agree with the depo jab idea. Do you have a rheumy helpline or nurse contact? They can usually arrange them for you without seeing rheumy. If you don't - try your GP. Hope you get something before Christmas. Take care.

Yes, a replacement med surely should have been offered, you poor love!

Usually mtx will take a while to get out of one's system but not always.

Perhaps a shot of steroid will suffice for the Christmas time? I am sorry they have left you in so much pain..

Much love,

Amanda

Did you manage to get anything from your GP or Rheumia nurse Audrey? There are no prizes for suffering pain as we all know all to well on this forum. I bet that the majority of us have survivied for weeks and months on a diet of painkillers, heat patches and wheat bags rather than go for help. Don't suffer, ask!

Hope that you are getting help now. preferably a steroid injection to keep you going.

Take care,

Eleanor x

hi All

thanks for your advice the nurse gave me depo steriod but it has not done anything for me, went to see the orthotics dept for some more splints for my hands /wrists and he has given me much the same advice as your good selfs warm packs and pain killers and not to push my self to much at this time. when i went to the rummy last they said that I may have to go on injections for a while not sure which ones but will let you all know which when i get on them. Hope you all have a good Christmas and happy new Year will be reading all the info take care all of you. Hugs Audrey.

Audrey - it may be that the depo they gave you wasn't big enough. Can you ring up and tell them it hasn't helped?

Hi Audrey, sorry to hear you're still in pain. When did you have the depo - they usually take about 2-3 days to kick in.

Hi Audrey

Here's hoping that the depo does kick in and give you some relief.
